Position to be filled: Summer Camp Science Teacher
The YWCA of White Plains & Central Westchester seeks a part-time (25 hours/week) Science Teacher for our Camp Funkist Summer Camp.  Candidate must be available for full camp season; June 26, 2017 – August 18, 2017.  Must also attend all required staff meetings and training sessions.

Responsibilities:

  • Supervise and plan summer science enrichment and education program for Kindergarten through grade 8
  • Be responsible for developing and delivering age appropriate lessons for all camp groups  
  • Camp science curriculum should include environmental science, conservation, earth science, engineering, and other age appropriate topics
  • Engage counselors in delivery of lessons for their camp groups
  • Be responsible for the ordering of all supplies necessary for the dissemination of the represented lessons to campers

Qualifications:

  • Degree in teaching science for Kindergarten through grade 8
  • Experience in managing science education program
  • Good communication and writing skills
  • Able to work independently

Position to be filled: Summer Camp Visual Arts Instructor
The YWCA of White Plains & Central Westchester seeks a part-time visual arts instructor for our Summer Camp 2017.  The ideal candidate should possess 3-5 years teaching experience with young children, hold a degree in the visual arts and/or education, and be prepared to assist with two productions at the middle and end of the 8-week summer day camp season.  The visual arts instructor will be working with children in Kindergarten through 5th grade.

Candidate must have enthusiasm, creativity, imagination, and a strong desire/ability to collaborate with other teachers and summer staff.  We are looking for someone who can develop, coordinate and deliver an inspiring program and who can teach drawing, painting, stagecraft.  The goal of the visual arts program is to introduce young children to the rich diversity of visual arts, to promote interest in the arts and to help build positive self-esteem to children through this program.

This is a part-time (25-30 hours), temporary (8 weeks of summer camp) position.  Salary is commensurate with experience.

Position to be filled: Director for Child Care and Summer Camp Programs
We are seeking a Director to lead our well-established Child Care program which provides care for children ranging in age from infant to grade five, and our summer day camp.

Essential Duties:  The Director is responsible for the delivery of high quality programming according to OCFS and NAEYC for the agency’s full day, part day and after school programs as well as protocol outlined by DOH for summer camps. Is responsible for advocacy on behalf of young children, and be a YWCA leader in establishing professional, positive relationships with parents, children, colleagues and the community. Also, responsible for the recruitment, retention and supervision of a diverse staff and for overseeing a safe, enriching learning environment for all children. The Director will demonstrate knowledge and understanding of early childhood education (infant/toddler/preschool) as well as school-age youth development (through middle school age); curriculum development and program evaluation; child growth and development; effective instructional strategies; classroom management; learning assessment and diagnosis and research related to learning development of children (infant – grade 8).  The Director is also responsible for the fiscal management of early care and education; before and after school programming and summer camps.

Education:   Bachelor’s Degree in Child Development, Early Childhood Education or related field or equivalent educational experience (Bachelor’s Degree in an unrelated field and at least 60 credits in Early Childhood Education or Child Development) with at least 9 credits in administration, leadership, or management or a Program Director’s Credential. Master’s degree in Early Childhood Education preferred.

Experience:  Minimum five years of demonstrated administrative experience and, excellent experience in teaching and/or educational services and managing a licensed child care center. Must be familiar with child care licensing and NAEYC requirements.

Summer Camp 2017
The YWCA has a variety of opportunities for summer employment at our Camp Funkist program. Our camp provides eight weeks of dynamic and fun activities for children four years old through middle school. Only individuals who can commit to all eight weeks of camp (seven weeks for counselors in the Rockets Group) will be considered.

Head Counselor:  Responsible for overall management of staff and campers in the assigned group. Head counselors manage daily and weekly records and are familiar with health and safety protocols; supervise children at all times; support camp specialists in group supervision as well as organize individual group activities; and serve as the primary liaison with parents.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Supervise all staff in respective camp group. Assign duties and breaks for Senior Counselors and Counselors.
  • Responsible for daily and weekly attendance records and health logs for children in the group.
  • Responsible for supervision of all children in the group for all on-site and off-site activities.
  • Support camp specialists in supervision of group activities; responsible for organizing and directing group led activities.
  • Primary liason with parents of children in your group.
  • Responsible for reporting incident or group management issues to the Camp Director.
  • Familiar with health and safety protocol and provide leadership on these issues for the group.
  • Maintenance of children's lunches.
  • Provide support for the Assistant Director and Director whenever necessary or possible.
  • Must be available for full camp session.
  • Attend all required staff meetings and trainings.
  • 2-3 years prior experience managing summer camp or other youth group program required.

Senior Counselor:  Assist Head Counselors in organizing and managing the assigned camp group. Supervise children at all times. Participate actively with children in all camp activities (including swimming). Additional responsibilities include: maintaining order and cleanliness of group areas; lunch duties; support children who may need to go to the Health Office; primary back-up to the Head Counselor.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Assist Head Counselor in organizing camp group participation in all camp activities in a safe and organized manner (i.e. pool, class activities, lunch time, outdoor activities, trips).
  • Supervise children at ALL times.
  • Participate actively with children in camp activities. May be required to participate with swim lessons or open swim and therefore, must be prepared with appropriate attire on group swim days.
  • Assist with maintaining order and cleanliness of group area. Assist with set-up and clean-up of group area and common spaces (i.e. Art Room).
  • Be a positive role model for children and other junior camp staff.
  • Maintain daily attendance if designated by Camp Director or Assistant Director. 
  • Take children to health office if needed.
  • Assist Director, Assistant Director, and Head Counselor whenever necessary.
  • Arrive on time.
  • Be available for the full summer camp season.
  • Attend all required staff trainings and meetings.

Counselor:  Supervise children and at times and take part actively in all camp activities including swimming. Assist with room set-up and clean of group areas and shared classrooms. Assist Senior and Head Counselors as needed.

Position to be filled: Private Lesson Scheduler

The YWCA White Plains & Central Westchester is currently seeking a Private Swim Lesson Scheduler for our Aquatics Department.  The candidate will work under the direction of the Aquatics Director.  The Private Swim Lesson Scheduler is responsible for the coordination and implication of the private swim lesson program.  The Scheduler will play an essential role in supporting the delivery of a high-quality, customer friendly private swim lesson program.  This position is part time (15 hours a week) Friday and Saturday mandatory.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Oversee the private swim lesson program to ensure that participants are correctly matched with instructors.
  • Contact all private swim lesson applicants within 48 hours of receiving their request form.
  • Ensure that participants have paid for lessons and that they are aware of the private swim lesson policies.
  • Perform all filing duties as is related to private lessons.
  • Maintain communication with participants to ensure that lessons are being conducted to their satisfaction.
  • Review private lesson sign-off sheets to identify participants with one or no lessons remaining in order to secure additional bookings.
  • Check and respond, throughout the day, to phone messages and emails relating to private lessons.
  • Ensure that private lesson instructors are provided with pertinent information regarding their students.
  • Maintain accurate records for private lessons.
  • Attend all mandatory staff meetings and trainings.
  • Provide outstanding customer service by addressing customers’ concerns about private lessons.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Aquatics Director

Education:  GED, High School Diploma, College a plus

Experience and Qualifications

Minimum one year related administrative experience including coordinating and performing diverse duties preferably in an Aquatics environment.  Demonstrated excellence in customer service.  Must be decisive and able to problem solve.

  • Solid knowledge of Microsoft Office.
  • Strong organizational skills with ability to meet deadlines.
  • Ability to multi-task and handle multiple demands simultaneously.
  • Ability to establish and maintain positive relationships with parents, children and other staff members.

  • Must be team-focused and goal oriented. 
  • Demonstrated maturity, responsibility and a sincere interest in working with people of all ages.
